Girls Learn Differently!
Forget everything you think you know about gender differences in children. We now have good evidence that single-sex classrooms can break down gender stereotypes. This has to do with the growing recognition that girls and boys learn differently.
Scientists have discovered that differences between girls and boys are more profound than anybody guessed. The brains of girls and boys differ in important ways. These differences are genetically programmed and are present at birth. Girls and boys also have different learning styles, in part because of those innate, biologically-programmed differences in the way the brain works.
It's not sufficient just to put girls in one classroom and boys in another. In order to improve academic performance and broaden educational horizons, you need to understand how girls and boys learn differently. Educators who understand these differences can inspire every child to learn to the best of her or his ability. As a result: single-sex schools offer unique educational opportunities for girls and for boys.
